Wind Chimes Tuning Information
Secrets of Creating Tuned Windchimes What is more satisfying than being able to create your own gifts or products?
Creating perfectly tuned wind chimes is easy… but - there are a few secrets you need to know first.
Here you'll discover some of these little known facts that will help you to create your own special sound.
Secret Number 1 - Where the pipes are struck The sound of a tubular chime comes from the vibrations created by the striker or clapper.
A pipe or tube has what are known as anti-nodes. These are the points that vibrate the most - they can be found at each end of the pipe and at the center.
This is where the striker hits the pipe to get the best sound. The center is best. The pipes should be hung in a haphazard pattern to achieve this… … but it should be an order of haphazardness.
Secret Number 2 - The Hanging Point The hole for the string is drilled at the node of vibration. This is where the pipe vibrates the least.
This point is found at 22.4% the length of the pipe. Measure the pipe and multiply the length by .224. Drill the hole.
Secret Number 3 - Tuning the pipe This is the puzzling secret that has had people scratching their heads for years. But not to worry… there is a way.
Wind chimes sound their best if tuned to a Pentatonic scale. This is the musical scale that is used by blues and folk musicians. Also some Eastern cultures, among others, use this scale.
The Pentatonic scale is the same as the black keys on a piano.
Any improvisation on a Pentatonic scale sounds good… … and that's what the wind does with a set of chimes… … improvises.
There is a formula available that you can use to tune pipes for wind chimes. The Hertz frequency scale is necessary, and a calculator that has a square root function.
You'll be able to discover all of this information - and much more - in an e-book produced by Al Williams. This book cuts right through the technical stuff and puts everything in easy to understand terms. This is 89 pages of valuable info.
