Wind Chimes Tuning
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I've read so many complicated instructions about tuning wind chimes - Is the formula in the book easy to follow?

A: Yes! If you want your wind chimes tuned to specific notes - all you need is: the Hertz frequency scale, which is in the book - a calculator - pen - paper - and a metric tape.

Q: Why are all of the measurements in metric?

A: Seeing as the Hertz frequency scale and a calculator both calculate in decimals - it is far easier to use a metric tape measure to mark the pipes.

It is very easy to make a mistake converting from millimeters to fractions of an inch. Also, The thickness of the pencil or pen mark should be taken into consideration - this combined with a fraction that may not be correct, can throw the tone of the pipe way out.

So as you can see, it pays to stick with metrics to get the pipe lengths as near as possible to exact.

Note: The E-book now comes with a free millimeter to inches converter. This is a small digital download.

Q: Instead of using metric measurements, is it possible to use feet and inches?

A: Not exactly feet and inches… but, inches and tenths of inches will work.

When calculating a length of pipe that is, say, 17 and 3/4 inches - 17.75 would be entered into the calculator.

Ideally, a tape that is shown in inches and tenths would be required.

Q: Do I need specialist tools to make wind chimes?

A: No. Basically, apart from the metric tape and the calculator, all that is needed is a handsaw for cutting the wooden bits - a drill for drilling the holes - and a tube cutter for cutting the pipe.

The tube cutter that I use will cut up to 1 1/8th inch diameter tube. Larger and smaller cutters are available.  Most come  with a built in reamer - that's for taking the burr from the inside of the cut tube.

A hacksaw may be used, but it is not as accurate as a tube cutter. The tube cutter is a small hand held tool and costs around 8 US Dollars.

Oh yes, some sandpaper for smoothing the wooden bits.

Q: I believe it's quite a task stringing all the pipes and wood together after they have all been cut out.

A: There is an easy way. In the book you will discover an easy to make sewing frame, which is called a jig. Once the parts are placed in the jig, it only takes a few minutes to assemble the chimes.

Q: Is it safe to use a credit card on the internet?

A: Yes, we've been using on-line banking since 1998, and have never had a problem. We use both ClickBank and PayPal - both are secure. The seller does not receive sensitive credit card or bank details from either of these companies.

Q: Once I have paid, how do I download the e-book?

A: If the e-book is purchased via ClickBank, a "Thank You" page will appear with the download instructions.

If PayPal is used, we receive an e-mail from them, and we send you the download page via e-mail.

To open the e-book you will need to have the free Adobe/Acrobat Reader installed. The latest version is available at:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html

Q: Do you ever have a problem with the e-book download?

A: Very rarely - and the buyer has always received the book. There are several reasons for download difficulties:

  • The purchaser either has forgotten to re-install Adobe/Acrobat Reader after a reformat… or is using an old version. It pays to keep this up to date - see URL, previous question.
  • The download instructions have been misread. A few people have left clicked on the download link instead of right clicking. This causes the book to open from the host site, and when the page is closed, the download page disappears. If this happens, contact me right away, and you'll be sent a download link.
  • Occasionally, we will be asked to send the e-book via an e-mail attachment, and the buyer's browser won't allow it to open. This is easy fixed.
         With Outlook Express, go to:
Tools/Options/Security - and locate: "Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could
potentially be a virus" and uncheck the box.

If you have a good virus scanner, it isn't
         necessary to check this box.
  • The server is down. Our web host guarantees 99% uptime. If this happens you will receive an error notice. This has never happened… yet -  If it does, contact me and you'll be sent the download details, or an attachment containing the e-book.
