This slip knot is called a Jamming Knot.
Once tied, it is pulled together (not too tight) and then pulling gently on the longer end, it is pulled down to the rod/pin. When it has reached the pin, it is given a sharp tug to make it hold fast.

I have no idea how it could be undone if necessary.
